About Me and the Studio

Hello and Welcome!  I'm Bobbie, the Owner and Artist behind Horse Tender Studio, LLC.

I was born and raised in a small town on the Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies.  I've traveled the country quite extensively and now parts of the world, as well, including the opportunity to live in Japan for 4 years - that was an incredible experience.

As one might expect, horses are a big part of my life and have been a passion since I was a little girl growing up reading Marguerite Henry books, as well as The Black Stallion series.

The studio was originally named around 2008 or so, but I have been making things as far back as I can remember.  The name "Horse Tender" came from an old paperback I found in my Granddad's ever changing collection of books.

A bit of history about the products I make and offer here:
I started my involvement in the model horse hobby in the late 90's, though before that I was collecting, playing with, painting, and making tack for an assortment of Breyers, Hartlands, Grand Champions, etc.  Now, I do a bit of everything, from custom horses: resculpting, painting (and sometimes hairing), tack, props, buildings, vehicles, jumps, and more.

My introduction to the world of laser cutting and engraving started around 2013.  Primarily I work with wood, but the machine can cut a wide variety of materials and engrave/etch many as well.  With wood items, I start with plain wood, paint, stain, sand, then use the laser to cut and/or engrave designs I've come up with.  Final steps are usually hand assembly of some pieces, painted engraved letters, and so on.  I often say that the ideas with the laser are paralyzing; it can do so much.  Do you have something in mind, feel free to chat with me about it!

Tatting is something I learned from my Granny in 2011.  It is a "lost art" and not something many people know how to do or even know what it is.  I've been making a bunch of fun stuff over the years and have recently started teaching classes and private lessons in my local area.

Other creations that may make an appearance here are: cross stitch, paper crafts, photography, and other surprises from time to time.

(I may also occasionally list other items, such as model horses from my collection and so on.)

Thanks for stopping by!
